The wooden fortress erected in 1538 and named in honor of the hometown Bar by Polish Queen Bona, who belonged to the Italian family Sfortsa. Crowned hetman S. Konetspolsky has chosen Bar his residence in 1636 and started construction of a stone castle. The designer was a famous French engineer G. de Boplan. Bar castle at that time was considered to be the second in terms of power after Kamyanets because it called "key to the Eastern skirts". From the once impregnable castle now it's just remaines of the walls, that can be found in the park, located in the castle area.
