The park with an area of more than 23 thousand hectares was created in 2009 with the aim of preserving the unique and diverse landscapes of the Left-bank forest-steppe – from low-lying shores and sphagnum bogs to relict native forests.

Hydrological reserves "Khukhryansky", "Bakirovsky", "Klimentovsky", "Yamny", as well as six protected tracts with trees of an age of more than 200 years, are located within the boundaries of the Hetman nature park.

етьманський національний природний парк (Гетьманський НПП) створений 27 квітня 2009 року згідно Указу Президента України № 273/2009, з метою збереження, відтворення і раціонального використання типових та унікальних природних комплексів Лівобережного лісостепу, що мають важливе природоохоронне, наукове, естетичне, рекреаційне та оздоровче значення. Робота над створенням парку тривала близько 10 років.
