The dungeon appeared much earlier than the house itself — in the XVII century, during the Hetmanate. At various times, it was an armory, a wine cellar, and a place where prisoners were held. And here began the underground passages to different parts of the city and even beyond. One of them was walking under the modern premises of the district court on Castle Hill. This underground passage has existed since Cossack times and connected the Hetman's palace with the central part of the city. At the entrance to the basement there is a map reproducing the courtyard plan of the town of Gadyach in 1760. It clearly shows the fortifications and the fortress in the city center, which has not survived to this day. In addition, the map shows underground passages. Today, museum exhibits discovered during the research have been located in several rooms of the basement, where underground passages have been discovered. In one of the rooms is a collection of rocks and minerals. Among the interesting exhibits is a petrified tree, its internal structure is clearly visible, all its internal part is flint.
