This natural resin comes in many different shades; in particular it varies from yellow to orange, black and even white. Green and blue colours are also distinguished; however they tend to be very rare. One of the largest sources for this fascinating natural gemstone is in the north of Rivne Oblast. That`s why this area is called the amber capital of Ukraine. It is in Rivne that you can get to know the secrets of the "solar stone". The first Amber Museum in the country takes you on an exciting journey through the fascinating history of amber.
Amber Museum was founded in 2010 on the basis of state enterprise "Amber of Ukraine" and is located in an old house of 1903. Pieces of amber up to 40 million years old, found at different times in the territory of Rivne region, as well as jewelry made of it, are among the exhibits of the museum. In particular, the oldest amber product in Ukraine - a disc-amulet of about 2.5 thousand years old is on display. Stones with inclusions (crystallized insects or plants) are the highlight of the museum. A piece of wild amber weighing about 2 kg is presented here too. The exhibits not only tell the history of amber extraction in the region, but also inform about the only enterprise in Ukraine that deals with its processing.
