Putyvl is one of the most heroic cities in Ukraine. Most know it as the city where Yaroslavna cried, and also as a city of partisan glory, but its victories go deep into history – during the times of Kyiv Rus.
One of the tragic pages in the Ukrainian history is the Mongol-Tatar invasion. Putyvl also suffered from this disaster. This monument is installed in honor of people who heroically died protecting the city almost 900 years ago.
It is interesting that the Monument was not accidentally executed in the form of a cross, because this place, in fact, is a mass grave. The remains of city defenders were discovered during archaeological excavations and reburied together.
