Even children brought bullets to the soldiers of this battle. Here not only will you understand much better the physical and strategic challenges faced by the warriors, feel the spirit of heroism, but you will feel an emotional connection too. Today it`s a history and memorial reserve. However, nowadays the Battlefield of Berestechko is, perhaps, the only site in Europe which remained the same as it was three centuries ago.
The legendary, tragic and heroic Berestechko battle took place in June, 1651 in Rivne region. The fight occurred between Cossack Army and military of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Up to the end of ХІХ century, this battle was known as the greatest one in Europe. It lasted for almost two weeks. Then, Cossacks and Polish musketeers, Tatars and clergies, peasant rebels, German mercenaries and even children who were assisting soldiers, had met on the battlefield. There is the Reserve in this memorable place now.
While visiting it, one can hear many stories of desperate heroism. You can also see the church where, due to the legend, Bohdan Khmelnytskyi prayed before the battle, view the exhibits of «Cossack» collection having no analogs neither in Ukraine nor in the world. Moreover, the tourists have a unique chance to visit the battlefield, which remains exactly the same nowadays as three centuries ago.
