Sholokhovsky waterfall – "younger brother" of the Dnipro rapids, a monument of nature, created by the spurs of the Ukrainian crystalline shield in the Mesozoic era. A number of archaeological excavations were carried out on this territory, as a result of which traces of ancient settlements were found. The length of the waterfall is 140 meters, and it is especially attractive during the spring flood. Its uniqueness is due to the cascades, thresholds and the famous granite baths. Water flows over the rocks that have a reddish tinge. Because of this the cascade received its second name – Red Stones.
The waterfall is spoken by legends, associated with the Scythian and Cossack history, has an unofficial name "Kalnyshevsky Waterfall". One of the legends about the origin of the waterfall takes us to the times of the Cimmerians. The daughter of King Kimra Tamir was pursued by the Scythians, and the girl had no hope. However, on her way she met the steppe river. The river asked the girl to give her a necklace and as a sign of gratitude became a stormy waterfall, that destroyed all the pursuers. This place brings you back to the past where on the thresholds below the Dnieper river in the XVI-XVIII centuries Zaporizhian Siches existed: Tomakivska, Chortomolitskaya and Podpylenskaya. A beautiful scenery near the waterfall is perfect for the nature-lovers!
