Kotovskyi Mausoleum

The Red Army commander Kotovskyi was buried in the city Podilsk (former. Kotovsk, Birzula), which is connected with a part of his biography.

In 1924 in Birzula Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic was proclaimed with the participation of Kotovskyi. In 1925, after the murder of Kotovskyi near Odesa, the funeral was held in Birzula. His embalmed body is placed in a mausoleum located in the city park. In 1941, the hasty retreat of the Soviet troops prevented the evacuation of the body and the mausoleum was destroyed by the Germans, and the remains were thrown away, but local residents managed to keep the body until the end of the occupation in 1944. The mausoleum was restored in 1965 in a smaller form. Even today the remains of the Commander are preserved there.
